Whether it’s attending a conference, taking an online course, or going to a networking lunch, professional development is important to pursue as an employer and an employee to make sure you and your company are always on top of your game. Learn about your industry. It’s easy to think you know everything there is to know about your industry. You work in it every day, it’s all you think about! But attending conferences can expose you to knowledge and resources you may not have discovered before. It can also open you up to outside perspectives that can offer a fresh take on your business.
Networking. Meeting other professionals in your own and ancillary industries can re-inject you with new ideas to bring back to the workplace. It also helps to know fellow professionals you can ask for future advice on the job.
Learn from the Best. One of the ways the host(s) of the conference will attract attendees is by having one or more keynote speakers and panelists address the audience throughout the event. These speakers have spent years gathering expertise in your industry, which means they have something important to say, and it would bode you well to listen.
Resources. Oftentimes, conferences will share the powerpoint presentations with attendees after the event, meaning you have material to bring back to work and share with your colleagues. This is on top of all the notes and observations of your own.
